Kavi Synatra on His First Tour, Emotional Value Vol. 1, and Refusing to Fit In
Our interview with R&B artist Kavi Synatra, filmed at Event Masterz in Charlotte, on his first tour, the emotion behind his music, working with Young M.A, and the vision driving his growth.
On a stop in Charlotte, we did one of our favorite things again. We brought cameras into Event Masterz, sat down with an artist mid-tour, and let him tell his own story in his own words. No script. No polish. Just a musician talking about what he makes and why.
This time the conversation was with Kavi Synatra, an R&B artist out of North Miami, Florida. What starts as a simple "tell me your name and what you do" quickly turns into an honest look at how an independent artist builds a sound, a project, and a career from the ground up.
Here is the full interview, followed by what it says to anyone chasing a creative career.
Who Is Kavi Synatra
Kavi Synatra is an R&B artist from North Miami, Florida. R&B has always been his thing, the music he was drawn to before he ever thought about making his own. Once he realized he could sing, the decision was simple.
"I knew how to sing," he told us. "So I told myself, why not try it out and see what could come from me?"
That instinct, to bet on the thing you already love and already have, runs through the whole conversation.
The Sound: 90s Roots, Modern Vibes
Ask Kavi where his sound comes from and the list arrives fast. He grew up on 90s R&B, groups like Jodeci and New Edition, and pulls just as heavily from a modern lineup: Chris Brown, Usher, Drake, Brent Faiyaz, Neyo, and Mario.
"I listen to their music and it just inspires me to create," he said, "and really keep pushing the R&B sound and R&B vibes."
That mix, classic vocal tradition filtered through today's tone, is the lane he wants to own. Not an imitation of any one of them, but a continuation of the genre he came up on.
The Craft: Music You Can Live Inside
For Kavi, R&B is not background noise. It is a mood you step into.
"With R&B music, we've got to create that emotion," he explained. "That vibe, that mood when people listen, whether you're driving or at the house or getting ready, whatever the case is."
His new project, Emotional Value Vol. 1, is built on that idea from top to bottom. He describes it as vulnerability on both sides, for men and women alike, where the listener can feel whatever they need to feel and relate to any track from one through five.
"You can feel whatever you want to feel," he said, "and you can relate to either track on a project, one through five."
That is a clear point of view, and it is the kind of clarity that separates an artist with a plan from someone just putting songs out.
Working with Young M.A
One of the standout moments in Kavi's story is his collaboration with Young M.A on "On Her Body," track twelve on her project.
What makes him light up about it is not the feature itself but how it happened. The two linked up and cut the record on his own studio setup, right on his laptop.
"It was a real genuine type, authentic type connection," he said. "Once we did it, we already knew it was a hit."
No label machine, no committee. Just two artists in a room making something they both believed in. For an independent artist, that is the dream version of how a collaboration comes together.
Life on the Road: His First Tour
This is Kavi's first tour, and he is honest about what that means. It is new, it is an experience, and he is genuinely excited about it.
"We're in Charlotte now. It's fun. It's good," he said. "We've been having a good turnout and good responses across the tour in the different cities."
Between the tour and the way Emotional Value Vol. 1 is streaming, he counts these two things as his biggest accomplishments so far. It is worth noting what changed: a year ago he would have named his 100K YouTube plaque. Now it is the road and the reception the new project is getting. The goalposts moved because the work moved with them.
"Being on this tour, being able to perform for the masses and explore different cities and different audiences, I feel like that's definitely my biggest accomplishment so far."
Advice to His Younger Self: Stop Trying to Fit In
We always ask the people we sit with what they would tell a younger version of themselves. Kavi's answer was the sharpest part of the whole interview.
He used to be timid, he admitted, until he started getting out of his shell. So the advice is about confidence, but it goes one step further than the usual line.
"Don't try to fit in," he said. "Try to create something where people would want to fit in."
He drew the distinction himself. There is a difference between wanting to fit into something and creating something so special and so valuable that you draw people to you instead.
"Stop trying to find somewhere to put yourself in. Just be yourself."
That is advice for musicians, but it is just as true for any business owner or creator trying to stand out in a crowded market. The move is not to blend in better. It is to build something worth gathering around.
The Vision: Bigger Than Big
Kavi does not undersell where he is headed. Five years out, he wants to be the biggest, the best at what he does, and above all, happy doing it.
"I just want everywhere people go, no matter where we're at, if you go in the store, groceries, retail, music, Kavi Synatra, Kavi Synatra, Kavi Synatra. You hear my music everywhere."
And if you do not hear it, he wants you to know the name anyway, ideally through something positive. It is a big goal stated plainly, and the plainness is the point. He knows exactly what he is chasing.
What This Says About Building a Career
Kavi's story keeps circling one idea: authenticity scales. The Young M.A record worked because the connection was real. The project connects because the emotion is honest. The advice he would give his younger self is to stop performing for a room you are trying to join and start building a room of your own.
That is the same principle behind any brand that lasts. You do not win by looking like everyone else with a slightly better polish. You win by being clearly, memorably yourself and making it easy for the right people to find you.
